Unit 18 D2
The original intention of the database was to create
an electronic system for keeping all records for each member of the school film
club. My database holds all of the records for members, each film shown for
each month, each member’s payments, and all of the members’ reviews. I have
also added a form which allows new members to sign up to the film club and
there is an age generator to restrict people who aren’t at a suitable age from signing up. From
the functionality tests you can see that all of these features work properly in
my database and makes information easier to add and to store. I could improve the database by adding more
features to it as it doesn’t cover everything it has to, for example, a form
for members payments, this would allow more of the records to be transferred
from paper to an electronic system.
I could also add a switchboard which would make it easier to navigate around the database. The switchboard would be made up of buttons that can lead you to forms, reports, queries etc. by adding these two features to the database it means less information will be stored on paper making it more secure and it will also make the database more efficient as it will be quicker and easier to find what you’re looking for.
Adding a form for members payments would be done the same way as the members table was, adding the information necessary then adding the data to the payment table in the database. This could be improved further by allowing members to pay through an online service such as PayPal which would be more secure than just paying by hand. This way there would be a more reliable record of which members have made payments each month.

Feedback from P. Wilkinson
All the evidence below is proof you have met the following 5 learning aims for Unit 18:
(P4): Learn how to create features in data entry forms to ensure validity and integrity of data.
(P5): Understand how you perform queries using multiple tables and multiple criteria.
(P6): Explore ways to include an advanced feature in a database design.
(M3): Learn how to export data to an external source.

Unit 18 Task 2
Text – The text data type restricts the use of characters to
255. This data type allows the use of numbers letters and symbols so this can
be used for things like postcode and address.
Memo – This data type is used for things like reviews
because memo isn’t limited to a certain amount of words or characters.
Number – This data type can only be used to enter
numbers.
Date/Time – this can only be used to enter a time or date.
Currency – This data type puts a currency symbol in front of
the numbers in the record for example £45.00.
Autonumber – Every time a new record is added to the table
this data type adds a number on
Yes/No – This would be a question such as do you want an
email reminder sent to you? They are restricted to only one of two answers.

Unit 2 M3+ D2
The RAM
score lets the user know how much information that the computer can hold at one
time. This computing device has a RAM score of 6GB which is average. To improve
this you can increase the RAM to 32GB to speed up the system and
allow multitasking Adding more RAM would allow the user to be able to hold more
programs at one time on the computer. You could also add an extra hard drive
which will improve the computers storage space.
The CPU
score tells the user how fast the processor is and how many calculations it
makes per second. This computer has a CPU score of 796 making the processor
powerful and efficient. The score of the processor can be easily improved by
installing a more powerful processor however this is not necessary to do so for
this computer as the processor is already good. If the user was to do this it
would improve the overall speed.
The GPU score shows the user how powerful the
GPU is. For this particular computing device it came out with a score of 954
which means that the GPU is high quality. However to improve this you could
remove the current GPU and replace it with a higher quality one. This will
allow the user the deliver the highest graphics performance possible.
Unit 2 M2
There are many different computer systems that could be used, however they all have different features, for example, costs. A PC has many different features in comparison to a Mac. For example security, many people use PC’s which have Windows installed, because of this the computer is therefore more vulnerable to security threats in comparison to Macs. Macs are much less vulnerable to viruses which would be much safer if being used by a company.
Price is another important aspect when it comes to choosing between a PC and a Mac. Between the two, the PC is much cheaper than the Mac. However many people think that the money spent on the Mac is worth it due to the fact there are no issues with security etc. In a big company though the cost of several Macs would be relatively high, so PC’s would be cheaper to buy. In the long run though I do believe that Macs are better in terms of saving money, because they need less repairs as they are more reliable that PC’s.
There is a big difference when it comes to software on the two computer systems. With the PC, there are lots of different programmes and software that can be installed. However with the Mac there is a limited amount of software that can be installed.
The operating systems on both computer systems are different. The Macs operating system is much more stable than the PC, although many people do not like the layout of this operating system. The PC’s operating system is less stable, this is because many PC manufacturers still place pre-installed software onto these computers which offers no advantage to the user.
